UFO
So my desktop is in it's final death throes.  I know this for a few reasons... it's making agonizing moaning noises, and my internet is barely functional.  I'm sure I can squeeze a few more months of use out of it, but it would be more trouble than it's worth, reformatting, reinstalling the OS, replacing fans and upgrading some hardware.  I figure my time is better spent driving to a tiny computer store, more like an ubergeek cave, and give them a list of what I want in my new computer and tell them to 'Make it so'.

Hopefully in a week I'll be driving a Cadillac of computers!  I'm quite excited.

I could have built it myself, but I'm busy, I've got class to study and files to prepare for transfer.  These guys will do it for me for $40.  That's a good deal.  And all the parts are at wholesale prices.  Even better.

Farewell my faithful Sony Vaio.  You have served me well.  Parts of you will live on, after I have stripped you for the components...

Yeah, I'm a Doctor Frankenstein when it comes to computers. If the old part's still working, there's no reason I can't add it to the new one. This old computer has a sound card from my very first computer... almost 8 years old!! I just pulled the power supply out of this one (since it was snazzy and new and cost me a pretty penny) and replaced it with an old one I've got. I'm getting ready to bring it over to them now to add to my setup.

Ooh, sorry to hear about your computer dying. :-( That blows. Really. I've been fairly fortunate so far... *knocks on wood*

What kind of computer will you be getting? Sounds like you're getting a great deal! :-)

Thank you. This computer has served me well for four years, it's ancient! And I was overdue getting a new one anyways.

I'm getting a custom built computer with an i7-860 cpu, 4 gig DDR3 Ram, GTX 275 GPU, with Windows 7. In a year I'll probably upgrade the Ram, but for now, this will serve my purposes... mwahaha...

I think I need to go salt and burn the old one... don't want it coming back to haunt me ;)

World domination? :-p

That would be wise, lol. But if it comes back to haunt you, you'll have a reason to call Sam and Dean.

I need to upgrade some pieces on mine eventually. The memory on my laptop is sad. But it probably has something to do with the fact that I'm using it to hold all four seasons of Supernatural, lol. Video files are *massive* killers of memory....

Of course world domination... unless I could get my computer to make chocolate, then I might settle for that.

Hmmm... not get haunted... have a reason for the Winchesters to rescue me... I think I might need to keep this computer around ;-)

Yes, video files are HUGE. I've got so many hard drives installed to hold all my media. It's nuts. That's the part I am dreading the most is getting all the files organized on the new computer. Maybe you could try getting a portable hard drive. That might be cheaper and easier than trying to upgrade a laptop.

Oh, if my computer could make chocolate... I would be in heaven!

See, there *is* a good reason to keep your old computer around, lol.

I have thought about getting a portable hard drive for the video files. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for when I can get one that holds a large amount of stuff for a good price.
